  • 500g Whole wheat flour
  • 250g Sugar or jaggery
  • Water as required
  • Ghee or oil as required
  • Milk for making batter (optional)

Step 1

In a mixing bowl you have to combine the wheat flour and sugar. Mix it well, here you can also use jaggery in place of sugar as a healthier option.

Step 2

Now you have to add water gradually and mix to form a smooth batter. Here you can also use milk in place of water to make batter. The batter should be thick and of pouring consistency and ensure there must be no lumps present in the batter.

Step 3

Now switch on the flame and heat a non-stick pan or tawa over medium heat.

Step 4

Now you have to grease the pan or tawa with a little oil or ghee.

Step 5

Now pour a ladleful of batter onto the pan or tawa and spread it evenly in a circular motion.

Step 6

Cook the cheela on medium heat until the surface is dry and the edges start to lift. 

Sprinkle some ghee on the cheela. Flip the cheela over and cook for another minute or until both sides are golden brown. Use ghee as per your requirement.

Step 7

Remove the cheela from the pan and repeat the process with the remaining batter.

Step 8

Serve hot with pickles of your choice.
